![]() I'm giving Windows a very long time to try to load in case that could be an issue (hours, overnight, whatever). This is when I tried installing Windows 7 just to see if it would work and got to the installation screen (see the beginning of the post). The result: freezing on the windows screen. I tried installing Windows 10, this time with the SSD as the primary drive. My motherboard does not support Raid, hence the controller card. ![]() I could be wrong, but next I installed a RAID 1 network controller PCIe 1x card with 2x 1 TB hard drives for storage and a SSD for the OS and commonly used programs. I then tried the following:Ĭhanged bios to boot from CD- would not boot from CD, gave windows screen and frozeĭisconnected one hard drive- Would not boot from CD, gave windows screen and frozeĭisconnected the other hard drive and connected the first one (old 100 Gb IDE drive)- gave "corrupted Hal.dll error, would not boot from CDĭisconnected both hard drives- booted from CD to installation screen for Windows 7įrom this my assumption was that there was a problem with the hard drive. I replaced my processor, heat sink, and fan, but then my computer wouldn't get past the aforementioned Windows screen. The fan seemed like it wasn't running properly, so that's where I started. I was running Windows 7 until recently when my computer started to freeze in Windows and eventually would hardly reach the desktop without crashing. With that version of Windows I walked away from the computer for 10 minutes or so and it eventually came to the screen where I could choose to install vs repair. I say "seems to freeze" because I had a similar problem when I tested installing Windows 7. I am having a problem installing Windows 10 where it seems to freeze right when I get to the image of the Windows icon with a black backdrop.
